I Guided Mike from Placerville on Sunday on the middle Trinity. We saw quite a few Steelhead today, mostly on the move. We ended up hooking two, one about 4lbs and the other a nice dime bright wild fish that was in the 6lb. class, both were hooked swinging traditional flies near the surface.With the amount of Steelhead seen lately and the speed in which some are traveling, the river should be well stocked from top to bottom!!!

back to normal flows
The flows on the Trinity have dropped back down to there seasonal norm, release out of Lewiston is at 450cfs and should stay at that level till mid October. The additional flows over the past month have appeared to have been effective in preventing a fish kill this fall with the large on going return of salmon.Salmon have been seen in large numbers thru-out the entire river with more entering the Lower Klamath every day. There are already a good number of Steelhead in the lower and mid sections of the river. No need to dredge the bottom of the river for these early Steelie’s, they are more than willing to chase down a well presented fly! No need for winter clothing either, this is shirt sleeve Steelheading at it’s finest.I am starting to see interest as well as bookings, don’t miss out on what is sizing up to be an outstanding Steelhead season!
4th of July Lewiston wrap up
Lewiston lake fished well this past week, most fish were caught on small leach patterns, swung or stripped using an intermediate sinking line. Not much in the way of dry fly or nymph fishing, most of the naturals are super small…24-28′! Hopefully we will see more callibaetis during the day and or caddis in the evening.Lewiston Should continue to be productive well into the fall.
Memorial weekend Wrap-up
The fishing continues to be solid on Lewiston Lake. The lake has been heavily stocked with 12″ Rainbow’s, they were hot for the stripped wooly bugger and the dry-dropper rig when weather permited. The natives have pushed into the heavier current looking for easy prey, leeches swung on an intermediate line did the trick. Looking for the weather to stabilize and warm, with increased insect activity the natives should move back into the flats and offer some long awaited dry fly fishing!
Fishing remains solid
The nymph grab over the last several weeks has remained solid with many double digit days. Mostly sight fishing to cruising Rainbow’s 12″- 20″ . The dry fly bite hasn’t been consistent yet but will most likely pick up over the next several weeks as the temps warm and the Spring release flows settle down.
Big Changes

Well as you probably know the weather has finally changed in a big way. We have had a mix of snow and rain up hear in Douglas City since mid week with 4″ of snow on the ground Thurs. morning. The Trinity is blown from Douglas City down as of this morning, things are on the drop right now but more wet weather is on it’s way. The good news is this is what we needed to get Steelhead moving, on the coast it will give them the opportunity to get past sandbars and sea lions and into the rivers. The Trinity should settle down in it’s upper stretches by the first of the week, the coastal streams will take a little longer with the Smith being the first to clear, possibly by mid week.
Winter Run
Just finished a couple of great days fishing the Trin with Cole from Santa Rosa. The weather continues to be mostly clear and cold but the fishing continues to be solid. There has been a solid push of Winter run Steelhead, most of the fish have been wild, 6-8 lbs with a few bruisers mixed in.As you know you cant catch them from your laptop, make plans and get out there!!!
Still Producing
Fished with Anhtony and Trevor on Sunday, we fished the JC area and for the most part had it to ourselves! Each landed a nice adult Steelhead, Trevors was a large hatchery buck and Anthony landed a beautiful wild, bright hen. Starting to see the first of the winter run fish!Conditions are still low and clear but the river will give up a few for those willing to put the time in. Cant catch um from your couch!
I fished with father and son duo of Anthony and Trevor yesterday. We floated the JC area and had it pretty much to ourselves. Each landed a nice Steely, Trevor a large hatchery buck and Anthony a fresh and fat Wild hen, one of the lead fish of this years winter run!!Even thou the water is still low and clear the river will give a few up for those willing to put the time in. Can’t catchum from your couch!
Still producing
I guided Tom and Greg on Monday, the river is still low, clear and crowded but Still Producing. Greg landed this nice buck late in the day but we had multiple opportunities through out the day!
